Toward the end of the Middle Ages, between 1300 and 1400, the poems of Dante, Petrarch and Boccaccio were contributing to the formation of the Italian language and its use in place of Latin.

In the same period, the foundations of Humanism and the Italian Renaissance were being laid.

Humanism gave prominence to the human being, to the expression of personal talent, to freedom and to the relationship between man and the universe. It flowed spontaneously into the Renaissance, a period of great human and artistic development.

The values of Humanism and Renaissance are inherent in Italian language and culture.
