In this tutored course you learn how to greet someone, introduce yourself and your family, express opinions, describe objects, places or situations.

Upon successful completion of the course you should be able to "...recognise familiar words and very basic phrases when people speak slowly and clearly... use simple phrases and sentences to describe where you live and people you know... interact in a simple way provided the other person is prepared to repeat or rephrase things at a slower rate of speech and help you formulate what you are trying to say... ask and answer simple questions in areas of immediate need or on very familiar topics" (standard definition from the Common European Framework Self-Evaluation).

Please note: in order to help students learn the language and improve their understanding of Italian culture and lifestyle, CyberItalian has revisited the famous Italian story "Pinocchio" and most CyberItalian self-study lessons present a dialogue with a modern Pinocchio (Pino). Through "A Modern Pinocchio Story", the CyberItalian course helps students to learn the Italian language and culture, as well as explore their own lives and learning challenges.

1			Introduction & alphabet. Learn and sing the CyberItalian song. 5 tips on practicing with Italian songs. CLASS PROJECT: students showcase to parents "Io Canto" (= I Sing - activity 212). Review words and meaning of the song "Io Canto". The puzzle of Italy! (activity 070). Practice your pronunciation: Italian words in other languages (activity 363).
2	Grammar/Culture Lesson with exercises and exam: b_1 Ciao Pino! Learn how to greet someone and introduce yourself. Subject pronouns; verb "Essere" (to be).		The puzzle of Italy! (activity 070). Practice your pronunciation: Greetings (activity 356) FOR CLASS PROJECT: Review words and meaning of the song "Io Canto" and sing.
3	Learn the difference between a dictionary and an automatic translator	Assignment - minimum amount of words required: 40	FOR CLASS PROJECT: Listen to and practice singing "Io Canto" by yourself. FOR CLASS PROJECT: Review words and meaning of "Io Canto". FOR CLASS PROJECT: By yourself and with your classmates start thinking how to showcase the song. FOR CLASS PROJECT: Draw or find pictures of persons, objects, situation named in the song "Io Canto".
4		Audio Lesson and Recording: greetings - saluti	Get ready for Italian conversation: 3 steps (activity 387). FOR CLASS PROJECT: Review words and meaning of the song "Io Canto". FOR CLASS PROJECT: With your class mates, organize a series of drawings and pictures to show while you will sing "Io Canto", (show the object, situation or person when it is named in the song).
5	Grammar/Culture Lesson with exercises and exam: b_2 Who are you? Learn to describe yourself. 10	Grammar/Culture Lesson with exercises and exam: b_4 What do you prefer? Learn to express a preference, to form a question and to answer negatively. Present indicative of regular verbs; interrogative sentences; negative sentences; irregular verbs: "Preferire, Capire, Piacere". Activity: I like, I don't like.
