Un lavoro di traduzione è sempre un po' un lavoro da detective. Come diceva San Girolamo: non basta tradurre parola per parola, bisogna capire e tradurre il senso dell'intero testo. E tu? Hai difficoltà nel comprendere e tradurre l'italiano?	A translation work is always, somehow, a 'detective work'. As San Girolamo (Saint Jerome) used to say: it is not enough to translate word by word, we need to understand and translate the meaning of the whole text. How about you? San Girolamo (347-420) è stato un grande studioso, conosciuto principalmente per la sua traduzione della Bibbia dal greco e dall'ebraico al latino. Storicamente, la sua traduzione della Bibbia fu la più popolare e rimase tale fino all'inizio del XX secolo. San Girolamo non sapeva che un giorno l'IA avrebbe tradotto lunghi testi, in tutte le lingue, in pochi secondi! Tuttavia l'intelligenza artificiale e la traduzione automatica a volte fanno 2 errori importanti: 1. Non capiscono il contesto. Alcune parole hanno molti significati possibili e possono essere tradotte in modi diversi a seconda del contesto. La traduzione deve sempre tenere conto del contesto. 2. Non capiscono il senso di un testo o di alcune espressioni idiomatiche e fanno buffi errori perché traducono solo letteralmente. E noi? Come possiamo tradurre bene? Per risolvere le difficoltà, il nostro consiglio è: usare un buon dizionario cercare la parola da tradurre controllare quante traduzioni e significati diversi ha la stessa parola, e quale può essere la traduzione più adatta al nostro testo controllare se il dizionario offre esempi d'uso di questa parola e contesti ed espressioni idiomatiche in cui è comunemente usata. Sometimes, when you translate a text, the meaning is not immediately understandable. It is hidden. You have to look for it. To develop your attention to detail, challenge yourself and do the following exercise.

Click on the enlargement of the painting by Antonello da Messina and look for the "hidden" lion.

(In paintings, St. Jerome is always accompanied by a lion because a legend has it that the saint had removed a painful thorn from the lion's paw. The animal always followed him in gratitude.)
